Sport

Mercia School is blessed with fantastic facilities for sport including large playing fields, a sports hall, a dance studio and a MUGA area for tennis, netball and hockey.

Sport is an important part of the school and is available to pupils through our enrichment curriculum for all year groups (4pm-5pm). In addition, pupils can choose to play sport during their lunchtime. In terms of sport for pupils with additional needs, we have a talented staff team who go above and beyond to ensure all pupils are fully included. All pupils at the school take part in PE lessons and sport enrichment. Currently, the sports on offer at Mercia School include:

  • Football
  • Rugby
  • Netball
  • Basketball
  • Dance
  • Cross country
  • Tennis
  • Trampoline
  • Gymnastics
  • Athletics
  • Hockey
  • Table tennis
  • Badminton
  • Dodgeball
  • Fencing
  • Archery
  • Rowing
  • Futsal

Alongside our enrichment curriculum, the core curriculum provides superb sporting opportunities. Pupils receive one Physical Education lesson and one Games lesson per week. We also have a proud record of fulfilling sports fixtures across the city and in partnership with Sheffield Federation for School Sport. As we return to normality, the school looks forward to competing on regional and national levels.

The quality of the school's Physical Education curriculum and wider promotion of school sport has been commended by the Association for Physical Education (afPE). We are very proud to have received the afPE's quality mark and will continue to offer a first-class physical education to our pupils. Please see below a letter from the afPE confirming their decision to award their quality mark.
