Our Enrichment Curriculum

We believe that the most successful pupils commit to embracing all that school has to offer them. The enrichment curriculum at Mercia School promotes pleasure and passion in learning outside the classroom. All pupils take part and enjoy access to a wide range of new experiences and subjects.

Enrichment and Electives

The enrichment curriculum is available Monday - Thursday and it commences at 4pm until the end of the school day at 5pm. The enrichment curriculum includes: performing arts, sport, STEM, theology, philosophy and Modern Foreign Languages. We place this high-quality enrichment at the heart of our community, organising events to showcase and celebrate the very best that Mercia School has to offer.

The latest enrichment offer (Half term 5) is:

Our school community is a vibrant hub for creativity. We work in partnership with Sheffield Music Hub and believe in working with our local community.

Charity Work

A key part of our enrichment offer is charity-based. Through our mastery curriculum, pupils learn a great deal about a wide range of charities and the excellent work they do. Pupils help design and lead fundraising opportunities throughout the academic year.

Our extended day incorporates self-study time, personal reading and reflection. Our motto, ‘Let us be united by knowledge’ promotes our core value of continuous learning and helps us to support pupils with genuine passion and commitment for their own learning.

Showcase Events

Below is an example of a programme for an Autumn Showcase, held in December 2020. We are proud to have held Showcase events during a disrupted academic year like 2020-21. Despite the pandemic, we held two events safely and successfully for all year groups.

Trips and Visits

Prior to the pandemic, we had a strong commitment to providing excellent trips and visits for all pupils. This commitment will be redefined and rejuvenated from September 2021 as it becomes safe to travel again. It is our steadfast belief that all pupils, no matter their economic background or additional needs, have full access to any trip we conduct.

We are running an educational visit to Normandy in July 2022 and Paris in October 2022.
